Lot of us have been talking about the characters of Gangs Of Wasseypur and how they are confusing at times as they keep on entering and vanishing from the main plot. And then film critic Anupama Chopra pointed out in her review that it would have been good if there was a booklet with all the main characters and the family trees. Talk started on social networking platforms and our man from Wasseypur, Neeraj Ghaywan came to the rescue. This is also going to help you in understanding the family dynamics in Part2. So here it is.

Have a look and spread the good word to your confused friends. There are two pages – 1st one is Khan tree and click on the arrow which appears on the tree to take you to 2nd page – that’s Singh and Qureshi clan.

Is the unnamed son of Nagma and Sardar, Tangent?

  2. Jalebi bai says:

Jo log shuru ka aadha ghanta confusing hone ka rona ro rahe hain:

Ek tha shahid khan, aur ek sultana daku. sultana ne shahid ko gaand pe laat maar ke wasseypur se bahar phenk diya aur wo dhanbad aa gaya. Wahan jaake wo ramadhir singh ke liye kaam karne laga. ramadhir ne shahid ko tapka diya aur shahid ka bhai* uske bete sardar ko leke wahan se bhaag gaya.. Simple as that.

  3. Aditya Mattoo says:

You should have only mentioned the people that appear in the first half…but then again was it really that confusing for it to need a family tree:P
P.S…Loved the history n backdrop intro in the movie…Explains a lot about ‘what’s’ and ‘why’s of Wasseypur’

  4. Chutiya_paa says:

But i got the impression that Qureshi was also just impersonating Sultana. Remember the scene with their elder where Shahid khan says something about everybody doing just bakaiti.

    • Ketan says:

i also thought that Ehsaan Qureshi was not related to Sultana Daaku and that Sultan was Sultana’s sister’s son. Don’t know if I heard wrong

  5. duke says:

Itna bhi consfusing nahi tha..aur ye ppt dekh ke to main zyada confuse ho gaya.. Sardar khan ka 4th beta kab hua..bhai lambi story hai tabhi to picture 2 part mein banayi hai… zabardasti ke Golmal aur Dabangg type sequels banane se to kai guna better approach hai..
Anupama focused a little too much on the negatives in the TV review(she could have just said its a bit long and got on with it but she went on and on)..no mentions of direction, camera setups, scenes, dialogues, dark humour though she did talk about acting..
story summary batane lagte hai yaar yeh kaise critcs hai..sifarashi jinhe zabardasti jhelna padta hai..mayank shekhar was better.. Anupama is not HT level, TOI mein jaana chahiye tha use..

  6. Wasim says:

Why are all critics cribbing about this? The movie was fairly simple to follow with Mishra’s voiceover.
If you really needed a guidebook through the movie, its your double digit IQ thats the problem.

  7. midhunsuresh says:

according to me it was a good movie

  8. Aftab Ahmad says:

Anurag Kashyap is like the arrogant young college kid in DU who thinks he has seen all European classics and read the existential philosophers so he needs to be worshipped by the wannabes. Truth is, he is a pretentious filmmaker who got lucky because easier access to quality world cinema has changed the way we look, think and talk about the art. Sadly, no matter how hard he tries, his movies can never match the genius and greatness of works of Directors like Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch and Darren Aronofsky.

Unfortunately, Gangs of Wasseypur adds up to less than the sum of its parts. At best, it can be called an Indian gore-porn. Like his earlier duds Gulal and TGIYB, this one too is a half baked attempt to titillate his obsessive fanboys.

At two hours and 45 minutes, the Gangs of Wasseypur is very long. A more economic director could have easily told the same story in a far less time. I dare to say that the Gangs of Wasseypur is an extremely self-indulgent film.

  9. Sujata says:

Not sure what is so confusing about the film. There was no room for any confusion BUT on a second note I think …people who saw Teri Meri Kahaani the same week could have found GOW confusing 😀 FORGIVEN

  10. shivacarnage says:

No need for such booklet…and absolutely no need to pay heed to so-called critics such as Anupama Chopra…if she’s confused or anybody else is confused…then they have issues with their general understanding…they need to get it right first…!!

  11. Rashid says:

hmmm, Jaideep Ahlawat – Casted as Shahid khan…..

  12. Nishesh says:

My salute to whoever the casting director is, it was amazing to see the actors who played the young Tigmanshu and Piyush Mishra, they look so real.

I was eagerly waiting for this movie from past one year.. and now doing the same for the next part.

  13. SAdhu says:

I don’t think ‘Definite’ is going to be Durga’s (reemma sen) son for part 2.

    • Monal Thaakar says:

No it’s definetly definete cz i heard her calling him “definetva” in the scene before manoj bajpai’s death

  14. Is the fourth unnamed son’s name ‘Tangent’ as seen in the trailer of GoW2?

  15. Towards the end of colonial India, Shahid Khan loots the British trains, impersonating the legendary Sultana Daku.Shahid gets exiled from the village when the furious Sultana finds out. Now outcast, Shahid becomes a henchman for Ramadhir Singh .A coalmine owner, Ramadhir Singh kills Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat) on learning his ambitions to rule the coalmine someday. Shahid’s son Sardar (Manoj Bajpayee) somehow escapes with Farhan, the seed of vengeance sown deep within his dark soul and bald head.Years pass, India gets independence, and coal mining becomes less lucrative than sand mining than car parts.Shahid’s brother Farhan(Piyush Mishra) takes Shahid’s son Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) to safety.Sardar (Manoj Bajpayee) shaves his head, swearing not to grow his hair back till he has had revenge, it sets off the revenge trail that lasts between the Khans and the Qureshis over generations. The years pass. Ramadhir becomes a powerful politician who controls the district while the wily and philandering Sardar becomes a ganglord and the most feared man of Wasseypur. Staying true to its real life influences, the film explores this revenge saga through the socio-political dynamic in erstwhile Bihar (North India), in the coal and scrap trade mafia of Wasseypur, through the imprudence of a place obsessed with mainstream ‘Bollywood’ cinema. Family Tree of the Khan Family.

  16. Anil says:

why is one of sardar khans son unnamed? Part two reveals his name as “tangent”.

  17. Kay Kay says:

Who is Shamshaad then ? We see him as one of the enemies of the khan family.

  18. […] QOTD – Pick your favourites. If you are bit confused with who played which character, click here to access the family chart and then […]

  19. Danish says:

has anyone here saw the youngest khan ( sardar’s unnamed son) dying in the moviE????
    @others… he is not tangent…. tangent is perpendicular’s friend…

    • dying?? as in wen? i can’t even think of a single point where some1, who can b d fourth son, appeared on d screen.. it’s just mentioned once by ramadhir singh that sardar khan has 4 sons from his first wife, n 1 from d second. barring that, this 4th son is completely forgotten throughout d second part.. in fact, i can’t even remember if his birth was mentioned in d first part.. IMO, kashyap deliberately made this goof-up, so that ppl lyk us rack our brains over it.. 😀

  20. M 3.0 says:

i think the tree is bit wrong …
    1. asgar was not cousin of Sardar .. but was the son of Nasir s Sister..
    2. Shama Parveen was daughter of Badoor Qureshi .. who was son of Sulatana (though not confirmed in movie..).. and uncle of sultan…
    3. the unnamed son is shown thrice in the movie.. and twice he was reading some book.. in the closing title he was said as “Sardar unnamedSon”… may be Mr Kashyap will use it in gow 3 .. 🙂

  21. Pritam says:

Can someone solve the mystery of Sardar Khan’s fourth unnamed son, please?

  22. Gsingh says:

Sardar khan son’s names are Danish,Faizal,Guddu and perpendicular from Salma begum. As it mentioned at the time of when danish came to his mother Salma Begum after killing the person at Rajjan mention. his mother at that time was busy with both young kids Guddu and Perpendicular. All the Main characters are named on the side when they first appear in the Main scene, so did Guddu name is mentioned and played when Danish funeral was in place and Faizal to his mother for the first time in the Movie.
On more thing You loser Aftaf ahmed. Things never go as plan or unplanned as u see this is sumthing very Different. u Fuck tard dont think too much and keep doing the shitty job u doing…
HUH like Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch and Darren Aronofsk.

  23. Anonymous says:

  24. Anonymous says:
